Frequently asked questions
The things stitchers most often ask before buying a pattern.
Are these physical kits?
No. Every Chart Chic pattern is a digital PDF download, and nothing is posted to you. You'll need to supply your own fabric, embroidery thread and needle.
For thread, we recommend buying your DMC colours from Threads4U.
What you need to get startedVisit Threads4UWhen will I receive my pattern?
Straight away. As soon as your payment goes through, your pattern is ready to download from your account page, and it stays there so you can download it again whenever you need to.
Do I need an account to buy?
Yes. You'll need to create a free account before checking out. That's where your patterns are kept, so you can come back and download them again on any device.
What is the Pattern Keeper file?
Alongside the standard PDF, our patterns come with a version prepared for Pattern Keeper, a pattern-tracking app that lets you mark off stitches on screen as you work. Each pattern page shows "Pattern Keeper file included" when it has one.
If you prefer paper, the standard PDF prints and opens in any PDF reader. You can also open the standard PDF in our own stitch tracker, which works in your web browser with nothing to install.
Are the product photos real stitched pieces?
Usually not. Our gallery pictures are mock-ups created with AI to show how a finished piece could look, because stitching a sample of every design by hand isn't possible. Each one is checked carefully to make it as true to the pattern as it can be, but real thread, fabric and lighting will always look a little different. Where we stitch a sample ourselves, we add a real photo to the gallery too.
Each pattern page also lists the exact stitch count, colour count and finished size, which are the best guide to what you'll actually be stitching.
What fabric should I use, and how big will it be?
Each pattern lists the fabric count it was charted for, and a size chart showing the finished size on 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 and 25 count fabric. The higher the count, the smaller the finished piece. If you're not sure, 14 count Aida is the easiest to start with.
Choosing between 14, 16 and 18 count AidaWhich thread brand do your patterns use?
All our patterns are charted for DMC six-stranded embroidery cotton. The key lists the DMC colour number for every thread, along with how many stitches use it, so you can buy exactly the colours you need.
If you prefer another brand, such as Anchor, conversion charts are easy to find, but matches between brands are close rather than exact, so it's best to stick with one brand for a whole project.
Work out how many skeins you needWhich patterns are good for beginners?
Every pattern is labelled beginner, easy, intermediate or advanced. As a rule of thumb, fewer colours and a smaller stitch count make for an easier, quicker project, and both are shown on every pattern.
Browse beginner patternsCan I print the PDF?
Yes. Your purchase includes a personal licence to print the pattern and use it for your own stitching. Many stitchers print a copy to highlight as they go, or use our stitch tracker to mark off stitches on screen instead.
Try the stitch trackerCan I sell what I stitch?
Yes, in small hobby quantities: selling finished pieces at a craft fair or in a small online shop is fine. You can't share or resell the PDF itself, mass-produce items from the design, or present the design as your own.
Read the full termsCan I get a refund?
Because patterns are digital and delivered instantly, we don't offer refunds for a change of mind once a pattern has been downloaded.
If something has gone wrong on our side, such as the wrong file or a PDF that won't open, use the "Problem with this chart?" link next to your download or get in touch, and we'll put it right or refund you.
What currency will I pay in?
All payments are taken in pounds sterling (GBP) through Stripe. If you choose another currency on the site, prices are shown as an estimate for convenience; your card provider will convert the actual GBP amount.
I can't find my download. What should I do?
Sign in with the same account you used to buy, then open your account page, where all your patterns are listed. If it still isn't there, email support@chartchic.uk and we'll sort it out.
